Moments from Dorset's Maritime Heritage
The exhibition focuses on famous shipwrecks in the local waters around Weymouth, in particular the wreck of the 2Earl of Abergavenny", a ship bound for the East Indies which sank in Weymouth Bay having been stuck on the Shambles for 5 hours in 1805 with the loss of more than 250 lives including that of her skipper, Captain Wordsworth, the brother of poet William Wordsworth.
The exhibition is part of a range of Dorset Coastal projects and relates to the national "SeaBritain2005" campaign.
